On Sunday myself and Roy Hutchinson braved the elements , to visit chris thomas and the lads from Dragon Bonsai. When we arrived at the border we had to pay a small bribe to the guard , the language barrier was a bit of a problem but being half welsh i managed to make myself understood. We had a great day trading and talking all things bonsai thanks to all for your hospitality.

When not working on tree’s, I design and make rocks for myself and others.

These are hand carved, lightweight and strong.  As with commissioning a bespoke pot for a tree,

these rocks can be designed and made for individual tree’s . Here are a few examples .

One of many tree’s i worked on at North Devon Bonsai Society’s workshop day. The owner spent the day cleaning and wiring the tree ready for styling.

We ran out of time to do the styling work at the workshop so the tree came home with me .

The foliage still needs a lot of refinement this will be done after a season or two of growing and pinching.

I have included a virtual of one possible future for this tree.

This tree belongs to a local club member.  As you can see it was in need of some serious refinement.  Because of the state of the unkempt foliage, i decide to remove all juvenile type growth and style the tree from what remained.

Once I had wired all the remaining branches, it was time to step back and look for the image I had in my mind which was one of a windswept cascade that could be viewed from both sides and the front. This is the result after three days work.
