The two trees i leaf striped are back in leaf.
The Oak looks much better and the smaller leaves will help let the light in to the centre to keep new buds healthy.

The Ash put out a lot of healthy leaves. This one will take some time to develop but will be worth the trouble.

I plan to re-pot the Oak next year if i can find a suitable pot.

I had a chance to work on a couple of trees so decided to de-foliate my large Oak and a shohin Ash.
The oak is developing nicely with the ramification. I left the new (last year ) bottom branch to grow strongly to put some weight on the branch.

The Ash was strongly leaf pruned to start the developement of the ramification and also given the first wiring to shape the tree.

Both my best Hawthorn have been late flowering this year. Not sure why as the winter was no colder than last year. This one opened last week, a full month later than normal.
This one also seems to be resting this year as it is normally full of flower.
I have noticed this happening about every 5 years.

This is an Auricula planted in a John Pitt pot.

I think the colours match very well.

I gave my Lonicera shohin a trim today and found it covered in flowers.
I have never seen these before and according to the books they set with a small purple berry. If this happens i will post some pictures.

This one grew well last year and recovered from the chop so this year i have done a first wireing to form the basic shape.
You may notice that i have used electrical cable ties to hold the branches down.
These are very useful for moving large branches as well because you can adjust the tension over weeks causing less stress to the tree.
The ties will stay on this one until the branches are set. They are also easy to move a little to stop them cutting into the bark.

This one is a long term project but i think it has a future.

I managed to get out collecting this w.e.
I picked up a nice Hawthorn ( Crateagus ).

It came out with a good pad of roots so i was able to put it into a training pot.

I am sorry to have been so quiet here.
Work and finishing the new house have taken my time.
I have been able to start re-potting my trees now the weather is milder.
Two of my mame Hawthorn were due for re-potting and when i had them on the bench i remembered the pot i got from Gordon Duffet last year.
So, i arranged them together to form a Semi-Cascade.
I am very pleased with the results.
The branches will need adjusting but i will let the trees settle before more work.

The tree measures 10cm from top of pot.
I think this one has a great future.
